Currency & Banking Services
The national currency of Samoa is the Samoa Tala [SAT]. The current rate of exchange for USD $ is approximately USD $1= SAT $2.50. Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks, hotels and foreign exchange agents.
A Western Union branch is located at the TATTE Building lobby in the Samoa Conference Center (SCC) compound. All major international credit cards are generally accepted in hotels, shops and restaurants.
Banks in Apia are opened on Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
The currency exchange counters are located in the arrival area of the Faleolo International Airport. ANZ Bank, Bank of the South Pacific and the Western Union are always open to meet the arriving flights.

Climate & Timezone
October daytime temperatures in Apia range from 24 ºC to 30 ºC, with humidity that ranges from 75% to 80%. The time in Samoa is 13 hours ahead of UTC/GMT (UTC +13:00).
Daylight savings in Samoa will commence on 29th September 2019.
No pre-issued visas are required for entry into Samoa. However, ALL passengers entering Samoa must have a valid passport for up to 6 months, a return or onward travel ticket and completed arrival form. A 60-day tourist visa will be issued on arrival
Taxes are included in the airfare and as such no additional tax will be collected at the airport.
Custom & Quarantine
All delegates will be required to complete border entry requirements for Immigration and Customs purposes. Any passenger aged 21 years and above may import up to 2.25 liters of alcohol by volume of 40% of less, and/or 200g cigarettes or 250g tobacco products. Prohibited goods include illicit drugs and narcotics, goods such as paraphernalia/utensils associated with illicit drugs and honey products. Preventing pests and diseases from entering Samoa is crucial. All delegates must declare all food products, restricted or quarantine risk goods when travelling to Samoa so that these items can be inspected. The standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz.
The HOAFS and MOAF Meetings will be held at the Samoa Conference Center (SCC) located in the capital, Apia. The center is close to most hotels and motels. Apia town is approximately 30 kilometers from the Faleolo International Airport, a 40 minute to 1-hour drive.
Participants must be in good health and have medical insurance or a health care plan which would cover any medical emergency. Neither the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) nor the Government of Samoa shall be held responsible or liable for medical expenses, accident and travel insurance, compensation for death or disability, compensation for loss of or damage to personal property, and for any other loss that may be incurred during travel time or the period of participation in the Meeting.

Sequence of Meetings & Events
Meeting attire is island formal. Light summer clothing is appropriate given the prevailing climatic conditions.
From Faleolo International Airport, you can travel using public taxi unless your airport transfer has been arranged prior with your hotel or motel. Airport transfers may incur an extra cost on top of your accommodation rate. A trip by public taxi to the Apia town area from the airport costs around SAT$70.
Taxes & Tips
The Value-Added Goods and Services Tax (VAGST) of 15% is usually included in consumer prices unless otherwise indicated. Tipping is not mandatory.
